Location: Hayes Performing Arts Center 828-295-9627 Eight area bands and musicians based in Ashe, Avery, Caldwell and Watauga counties will be selected to participate in Hayesgrass, a playoff-style contest that will take place between April 15-May 16, with the Grand Prize Winner performing as the opening act for the renowned Lonesome River Band, when the popular bluegrass group plays the Mariam and Robert Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock on May 17, 2008.

Lonesome River Band
Location: Mariam & Robert Hayes Performing Arts Center 828.295.9627 Celebrating 25 years as one of bluegrass music's most popular and influential acts, the current incarnation of the famous quintet brings its signature sound to the High Country. Though vocalists and rhythm sections have come and gone since the 1991 release of LRB's breakout CD, Carrying the Tradition, the constant in the group's sound remains original member Sammy Shelor's driving banjo style.
