artinpark5-300x300Art in the Park, which takes place one Saturday a month May through October, has announced featured artists from across North Carolina in its 2015 edition. Dates and artists are as follows:

May 9: Joseph Falzone, glass, Asheville

June 13: Courtney Tomchick, clay, Clemmons

July 18: Willard Olney, jewelry, Wilmington

August 15: Andy Costine, wood, Tryon

September 12: Michael Smith, fiber, Asheville

October 3: Karin Neuvirth, painting, Durham

“These artists received exemplary scores from our jury, and they represent the best of their respective media,” said Charles Hardin, Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce Director. “Most of our participants are from North Carolina, though the show also features artists from across the Southeast. Many new artists applied this year, and we’re excited about hosting some of them at each show this season.”

Once again this year there will be free Sunday afternoon Concerts in the Park May through September, and the Inn at Ragged Gardens on Sunset Drive off Main Street will host a Music on the Lawn each Friday evening (weather permitting).

Prior to its 50th anniversary in 2012, Art in the Park moved to the American Legion parking deck in downtown Blowing Rock, offering visitors more places to park and vendors a better space to display their wares. This year the venue is being further enhanced: The American Legion is building a deck overlooking a pond in Broyhill Park, bathrooms are being redone and the surrounding landscaping improved. Work is scheduled to be complete by Memorial Day.

Art in the Park hosts nearly 100 craftspeople and artisans, with hundreds applying to show their wares. More than 35,000 people will attend the shows this year, choosing from handcrafted jewelry, pottery, fiber, glass, photography, painting and more. Prices for objects, from a handmade postcard to a large piece of furniture, range from $5 to $5000.

Art in the Park is sponsored by Modern Automotive and administered by the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce. For more information, visit blowingrock.com/artinthepark or call 877.295.7851.
