The Blowing Rock Fall Classic bike ride returns to the High Country on Saturday, September 24, joined by the Blue Ridge Ascent on Sunday, September 25. The two days of riding sets up an entire weekend of cycling on some of the region’s most scenic routes at one of the best times of the year, temperature-wise.
“Blowing Rock is excited to welcome cyclists from around the region to the second annual Fall Classic and the Blue Ridge Ascent. Having 400 or more cyclists spending the weekend with us will certainly have a positive economic impact in what is traditionally a slower time of the year. This opportunity also allows us to showcase our scenic surroundings and hospitality to a very well-heeled audience that we hope to see for many years to come,” said Tracy Brown, Executive Director of the Blowing Rock TDA.
The Fall Classic starts and finishes in Blowing Rock, and follows a 72-mile circle with 6000 cumulative feet of climbing on some of the region’s most scenic roads. Riders and their families or support teams should consider staying overnight in Blowing Rock either the Friday night before the Fall Classic, the Saturday before the Blue Ridge Ascent…or both. Registration at bloodsweatandgears.org/blowing-rock-fall-classic.
The Blue Ridge Ascent, which is a run, bike time trial or combined duathlon, takes place at the Blue Ridge Mountain Club, which is also the event sponsor. Registration at blueridgemountainclub.com/event/blue-ridge-ascent-2.
The Blowing Rock Fall Classic is part of the Hat Trick Cycling Series of bike rides, along with Blood, Sweat & Gears and the Beech Mountain Metric. For more information, call Scott Nelson at 704.450.2022 or go to blowingrock.com/FallClassic
