Even relentless rain can’t dim the beauty of the fall in the High Country. While there hasn’t been much sunshine to accelerate the foliage change, the cooler weather seems to be doing the job well enough. But be sure to look around for more than leaves; not all fall color is foliage! Today’s photos come from downtown Blowing Rock inside Annie Cannon Memorial Gardens. This shrub, which looks like a barberry, overhangs the water channel  that flows from Broyhill Park to Cannon Gardens. The vibrant berries will hang on through late fall, too, often providing pops of color against snow.
