tlb_080126091838_2909Part of 2014 WinterFest in Blowing Rock, this year’s Polar Plunge will take place in Chetola Lake at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25. If they don’t cut a hole in the ice, it will take place on Chetola Lake.

A select group (50–100 depending on weather conditions) of insane, costumed characters will compete for the coveted Golden Plunger Award by leaping into the ice-crusted waters of Chetola Lake while warmly-clad, hot-chocolate-sipping spectators line the shore and emergency workers keep a close eye on the proceedings.

John Carter of WBTV Charlotte will be guest emcee. Proceeds from the Polar Plunge will benefit the Western Youth Network and the Watauga Humane Society.
