It’s fall here in the High Country, which means leaf lookers from all around come to see the magnificent autumn colors our beautiful mountains have to offer. There are many fantastic vantage points and gorgeous scenic drives to enjoy! But if you want to turn your leaf viewing experience into a unique activity, here are a few more memorable ways to view the leaves this season:
Grandfather Mountain Guided Fall Walks:
When: October 2-10, 2021. 2:20pm
Where: 2050 Blowing Rock Highway, Linville, NC 28646
Grandfather Mountain’s guided walk series, “Fall Color Ramble,” gives leaf-looking visitors a chance to experience the breathtaking fall colors of the Blue Ridge Mountains though various locations around Grandfather’s grounds. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the variety of tree and plant species with members of Grandfather’s naturalist staff.
“Fall Color Ramble” will be offered daily from October 2-10 and is included in admission. Please note that Grandfather Mountain is implementing timed entry for guests, and tickets must be purchased online ahead of your visit. Beech Mountain Fall Color Guided Hike:
When: Fridays in October 2021, 10am-2pm
Where: Beech Mountain, NC
These free hikes start at the higher elevations and move to the lower elevations as the month progresses. It’s a good idea to call ahead to ask about the week’s trail difficulty. Wear sturdy shoes or boots and remember to take water! (828)387-3003

Ski Chairlift Rides:
When: October 8-10 (Oktoberfest) and 15-17, 2021

Enjoy the area’s fall foliage while riding the Summit Express Chairlift to the top of Sugar Mountain! You can sit and relax while witnessing the astounding views up in the air. Chairlift operates from 11am-7pm on Friday and 10am-5pm Saturday & Sunday on both weekends. Lift ticket prices are: $17 for a one-time ride, all-day tickets available.
