Grammy winners Apollo’s Fire and Jeannette Sorrell are known for exploring the crossroads of history and tradition with “infectious energy” and “profoundly spontaneous performances” (Gramophone magazine]. Playing on historical instruments, the ensemble traces the roots of Appalachian music to the Irish and Scottish immigrants who crossed the Atlantic, bringing their ballads, jigs, and reels with them. Apollo’s Fire has performed at Carnegie Hall, the BBC Proms, and major stages around the world — including concerts of ancient Celtic music at the Irish National Concert Hall in Dublin. Irish singer Fiona Gillespie joins the merry instrumentalists on fiddles, flute, cello, hammered dulcimer, plucked instruments, and harpsichord.
