Boonerang Music & Arts Festival

This family friendly event has free admission. You can expect to find live music from over 14 bands at 4 outdoor stages, an art vendor market with over 60 vendors, 3 locations for beverages, and food, a kid zone, silent disco, and activities for all ages! On Friday, June 17 at 5:30 pm, the Jones House will kick off festivities with their Music on the Lawn series. Beer will be available for purchase. Saturday’s activities start at noon and go all day with the final concert ending around 8 pm. The party can continue from 8:30 pm into the night with a silent disco at the North Depot Street Stage, featuring three different DJ streams. With North Depot Street, South Depot Street, and part of Howard Street being closed for the festival, you’ll be able to freely walk around to the stages, food and artist vendors, and other activities with ease! The hope is for this event to be built upon for years to come! We look forward to seeing you at the inaugural Boonerang Music & Arts Festival! Appalachian Summer Festival: Maeve Gilchrist featuring Aizuri Quartet & Kyle Sanna: The Harpweaver

When we can’t be with those that we love, surely the next best thing is to experience the catharsis of familiar sounds; notes and words that bring a sense of connection, possibility and joy. Originally from Edinburgh, Gilchrist — a migrant musician — has been making her mark as a ground-breaking harpist on the streets of New York and Boston for for nearly two decades through her collaborations with The Silkroad Project, Nic Gareiss, Viktor Krauss, Ambrose Akinmusire, Darol Anger, Solas and Okkyung Lee. With The Harpweaver, Gilchrist steps into her own as a composer and producer and illuminates her roots as a traditional folk musician through the prism of luscious string parts, electronic manipulation and an archived recitation of “The Ballad of the Harpweaver,” by the poet Edna St. Vincent Millay, a celebrity of Jazz-Age America. In addition to “The Harpweaver” program, the Grammy-nominated Aizuri Quartet (who recently appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert accompanying Wilco in a performance of “Poor Places”) will bring a selection of their trademark exploratory repertoire juxtaposing the timeless old with strikingly new and exhilarating string compositions. Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper at the Appalachian Theatre

As part of Boone’s Doc Watson Day Celebration, 2020 Grammy Award-winner Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper perform August 19 on the stage named in honor of Watson, the seven-time Grammy-winning legend who lived in nearby Deep Gap, NC. Vince Gill described Cleveland as follows: “Michael plays fearless and it’s intoxicating to play with him because he makes you play fearless. High Country Beer Fest

High Country Fair Grounds 748 Roby Greene Road, Boone, NC

There will be 1500 people and 35 breweries. Breweries will give out 2 oz. samples - the only payment you make is to enter the festival. There will be merchandise available for purchase but preordering your shirt on the website will ensure we have your size. In addition to breweries and delicious food, we will have 3 bands playing during the fest and free fermentation seminars where you can learn about fermented foods from around the world! There will be shuttles to transport you from the ASU campus to the fest and, if you drive to the fest, you can leave your car at the festival grounds over night if you are unable to drive home or get a DD. Expect limited taxis and mobile car ride services in Boone during the event. Once in the festival the beer, music, and seminars are free. Food and merchandise are available for purchase with cash only - due to the location of the festival, the internet is unreliable. Water will be available for free. Mountain Home Music and BRAHM present the Junaluska Gospel Choir Live in Concert at the Daniel Boone Native Gardens! This outdoor concert will take place in the beautiful setting of the Daniel Boone Gardens located at 651 Horn in the West Drive, Boone, NC 28607. Please bring chairs or a blanket as seating will not be guaranteed.In the event of rain, the concert will take place at BRAHM. The decision to move the concert inside will be made no later than 48 hours prior to the event. Tickets are $15 for General Admission, $10 for BRAHM & Mountain Home Music members, Students and Children under 13.ABOUT THE JUNALUSKA GOSPEL CHOIRNestled within the Junaluska neighborhood, one of the oldest predominantly African American communities in western North Carolina, the “little white church on the hill” has been home to some of the region’s most talent-rich gospel ensembles and over the years, the Junaluska Gospel Choir’s unique and eclectic sound has evolved into a passionate blend of gospel styles. Famous throughout the NC High Country for their passionate and uplifting performances in the Black and Old-time gospel traditions,  The Junaluska Gospel Choir is based in the historic Boone Mennonite Brethren Church. The choir features singers who come from multiple generations of gospel singing tradition. Joined together now with some of the region’s best rhythm and blues musicians, it’s nearly impossible to sit still during a choir performance.The Junaluska Choir sings every Sunday morning at Boone Mennonite Brethren Church at 11 a.m. The group has twice appeared at MerleFest and can also be caught performing at various churches, concert series, and festivals throughout the High Country. BRAHM: Transforming a passion for music into a profession for life

A lecture and recital by James Douthit including the piano music of Theodor Leschetizky (1830-1915) Presented by Appalachian State University FREE FOR ALL Join App State’s James Douthit for moving piano performances and a lively look at the opportunities students in the Hayes School of Music have to turn their talents into lifelong careers. Douthit will also share how his professional journey led him to be named dean of the university’s school of music — a progression of his work as a professor, pianist, and piano pedagogy clinician. Douthit has performed extensively in the United States, as well as in Austria, Poland, China, and Great Britain. He is noted for his performance of piano compositions of Theodor Leschetizky (1830–1915), one of the most renowned piano pedagogues of the nineteenth century. Of note, the Leschetizky Association of America invited Douthit to present a concert in honor of Leschetizky’s birthday and his performance earned a standing ovation. Reviews of Douthit’s recitals laud his performances as “musically poetic” and highlight his extensive technical and interpretive skills. He has been praised for his “sweeping gestures at the piano” that “extend his passion for the music and its communication to the audience.” Website

The Mast Store Americana Music Series on the Doc Watson Stage of the Appalachian Theatre continues on September 29 with bluegrass singer-songwriter, mandolinist, and guitarist Sierra Hull. Her stellar career started with a Grand Ole Opry debut at age 10, Carnegie Hall at 12, and her debut album, “Secrets,” at age 13. She played the Kennedy Center at 16 and the next year became the first bluegrass musician to receive a Presidential Scholarship at the Berklee College of Music. As a 20-year-old, Hull played at the White House. Website

Mast Store Americana Music Series at App Theatre

The Tommy Emmanuel concert is part of the recently-announced Mast Store Americana Music Series on the Doc Watson Stage of the Appalachian Theatre. This series is intended to be an ongoing, year-round program of artists and events celebrating the genre unique to our country. The ”C.G.P.” after Emmanuel’s name stands for “Certified Guitar Player.” This designation assigned by the late Chet Atkins recognizes guitar players who excel far beyond the normal line of playing. Atkins handed this title to only to four guitar players in his lifetime, with the first one presented to Emmanuel. Website
