This exhibition illustrates an essential, animating force in Blowing Rock's artistic history: the small community of Artists Alley.
Philip Moose, his name and his paintings, are nearly ubiquitous in Blowing Rock and the surrounding High Country. Best remembered for his landscapes, especially his countless scenes of Grandfather Mountain, Moose approached painting with a disciplined studio practice, producing a constant stream of pictures that found his work in the homes of so many in this community.
GIFTED: Collecting the Art of California at Gardena High School: 1919-1956 was developed for the hundredth anniversary of the Gardena High School Art Collection (GHSAC) in 2019 and illustrates the unlikely history of a communal approach to collection-building and a microcosm of California's modern art history.

Contra Dancing is American Folk Dancing and is both similar to and different from Square Dancing. Contra Dancing is always done to live music, and progesses in lines instead of squares. One of the foremost contemporary practitioners of Sacred Steel, a blues-gospel tradition dating back to the Pentecostal-Holiness churches of the 1930s, DaShawn Hickman grew up hearing the pedal steel in the tiny House of God church his family attended in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, listening to his mother play lap steel in their home.

The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra (PRSO) is the leading professional ragtime orchestra in the United States. Under the direction of virtuoso Andrew Greene, PRSO recreates the syncopated stylings of a bygone era - Ragtime, Theater, and Dance music, along with underscoring classic silent films using an immense archive of over 15,000 original orchestral scores.

Grandfather Mountain’s Fall Color Ramble wraps up with a day full of fall-color activities, including naturalist talks and additional rambles, allowing participants to explore and admire the annual phenomenon.

Flat River Band consists of three brothers Andy, Chad and Dennijo Sitze, who grew up in a multi-generational family band. Performing alongside their parents and grandparents, they held residencies at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri and at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

In May 1868, Tom Dula was hanged in Statesville, North Carolina, for the murder of his sweetheart, Laura Foster. The prior trial, his second, made national news and reveals much about regional and national understandings of “mountain folk” in the post-Civil War period.
Growing up playing music together in Boone, North Carolina, the sisters’ sound is focused around the type of breathtaking vocal harmonies that can only come from the unique bond shared by siblings, expertly complemented by tight instrumental arrangements and a bona fide love of the traditional songs they play.
