From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be a variety of interpretive tables and programming at the Woods Walk on topics such as how to plan a hike, Leave No Trace, essential items needed in a backpack and more.
Celebrate the rhododendron blooms with guided rambles, kids crafts and special displays. See the blossoms and learn about their history, attributes and roles they play in the mountain’s ecological communities.
Head over to the original Mast General Store to enjoy FREE popcorn throughout the day and join in on a special tour of the Original Mast Store led by Lisa Cooper, who spent four years living in the store when her parents re-opened the historic location in the 1980s. Tours are limited to 15 people and are scheduled at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Lauren Waterworth grew up in Watauga County and has lived in western North Carolina most of her life. She minored in Studio Art at Appalachian State before earning a Master’s Degree in Geology from Texas A&M University.
