The Schaefer Center Presents: Yonder Mountain String Band and The Del McCoury Band

Yonder Mountain String Band has redefined bluegrass music, expanding the traditional acoustic genre beyond its previously established boundaries by steadily pushing the envelope into the realms of rock n’ roll and improvisation. The Del McCoury Band, fronted by the legendary McCoury, is the most awarded band in bluegrass history. The bands take the stage together for a one-night-only concert at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts. Seating is capped at 800 (regular capacity 1,667). Tickets are General Admission. Face coverings are required in all indoor campus locations for students, faculty, staff and visitors, regardless of vaccination status. Crazy Christmas at Mystery Hill

We all know that Santa covers the whole world delivering presents to good children in just one night, but have you ever stopped and asked yourself how? Santa has long used gravitational vortexes just like ours at Mystery Hill to warp himself from place to place! However this year some mischievous elves have messed with Santa’s vortex generator, setting it off early! Now elves are scattered all over our mysterious hillside. Bring your family to help rescue these stranded elves to save Christmas! Enjoy festive activities daily, plus some additional events on Friday and Saturday nights. From the Elf Hunt to the Christmas Walk, events are presented through December 30.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” Screening at ATHC

Frank Capra’s timeless holiday classic film, “It’s a Wonderful Life” will once again bring the beloved characters of Bedford Falls to the silver screen as part of the Appalachian Theatre Cinema Classics Series at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, December 10 and 11. A modest film that became a Christmas tradition for many, the message in this film is one of courage and sacrifice as George Bailey, a man with big ideas about seeing the world, continually sets aside his own dreams to do the right thing for the town. In so doing, Bailey becomes “the richest man in town” when he learns we are all inextricably linked to each other and play an important part in the fabric of one another’s lives. This film is number eleven on the American Film Institute’s list of best films of the century. “It's a Wonderful Life” has proven to be an enduring classic that continues to be loved by generation after generation. Patrons and supporters of the Appalachian Theatre should note that the venue is committed to the health and safety of its community and will continue to follow the guidance of health and governmental officials in the development and implementation of COVID related policies. In “The Bourgeois Gentleman,” a new translation of the original play by Bernard Sahlins, Molière's beloved comedy features a rising member of the middle class who lusts for social status and higher learning.
