It’s finally here! The experts have officially called it peak leaf season at elevations of 3000 ft. and above, making it peak viewing for Blowing Rock and adjacent portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The peak colors should persist through next weekend. The weather forecast is predominantly good for the upcoming week with Thursday being the only day showing a chance of rain. According to Fall Color Guy, if we experience a storm there is the possibility of some leaf fall. However, there is still green at elevations around 3000 ft. and they should continue developing over the next week as well. Fret not, there is still plenty of time to enjoy the fall colors! Peak should continue at these elevations for the next 10-14 days. The reds this year are particularly vibrant due to the cooler weather and sunnier conditions we experienced in September. For more information on the different types of trees, conditions affecting leaf colors, and the altitude at which the leaves are peaking follow Fall Color Guy and Grandfather Mountain.
