Fall Color Update: September 25, 2025

The color around Blowing Rock is progressing nicely. While we are seeing color development, there is still plenty of green on the trees as it’s early in the season. Some varieties of trees showing early color are maples, sourwood birch, and sassafras. We’ve taken shots from downtown Blowing Rock, the Blue Ridge Parkway and HWY 221 since the last update. Remember leaves turn quicker at higher elevations and around bodies of water, so if you’re on an early-in-the-season leaf look check those places first. Also, Fall brings all kinds of beautiful flowers and foliage changes to bushes and low growing plants as well!

Please also remember to follow the principles of Leave No Trace to help protect our more fragile plants and wildlife. Some of our plants can take up to decades to repopulate after being trampled. It also allows for everyone to have as pristine an experience as possible. Check out this article written by Leave No Trace on how to Leaf Peep responsibly.
