We are seeing more fall color develop each day here in the High Country. We visited some of the same places as last week and found a notable progression of color. While still mostly green, pops of color are beginning to occur at our elevation and around bodies of water, such as Bass Lake. Currently, the domesticated maples are turning faster than the forest trees with impressive showings of yellow, orange, and red around town.
We still recommend elevation to find the most color, and Grandfather Mountain is the highest elevation in our area. If you are going to be visiting at the end of September or beginning of October, a trip to Grandfather is going to be essential for leaf viewing.
