Memorable Leaf Viewing Activities

Its fall here in the High Country, which means leaf lookers from all around come to see the magnificent autumn colors our beautiful mountains have to offer. There are many spots around the area to check out, but if you want to turn your leaf viewing experience into a fun-filled activity, here are a few more memorable ways to view the leaves this season:

Grandfather Mountain:
When: October 8th, 14th, 15th, 21st and 22nd
Where: 2050 Blowing Rock Highway, Linville, NC 28646
Grandfather Mountain’s guided walk series, “The Colors of Grandfather,” gives leaf-looking visitors a chance to experience the breathtaking fall colors of the Blue Ridge Mountains though various locations around Grandfather’s grounds. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the variety of tree and plant species with members of Grandfather’s naturalist staff.
“The Colors of Grandfather” will be offered on weekends of Oct. 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21 and 22. Program begins at 1 p.m. and is included with regular admission. For more information about “The Colors of Grandfather,” call (828) 733-4326

Banner Elk Winery Hayride:
When: October 15th
Where: 200 Park Ave, Banner Elk, NC 28604
Stroll through the mountain roads, taking in all the sights and colors of the mountains in the fall on this hayride to Banner Elk Winery. The hayride will leave from town hall in Banner Elk at 1pm on October 15th. Once the ride is over, make sure to tour the winery and take part in a wine tasting. $12 admission and $5 for anyone 21 and under. You must RSVP for a spot so be sure to call and save your seat! Fall Photo Hike:
When: October 14th
Where: 1330 Pine Ridge Road, Beech Mountain, NC
For those wanting to take the perfect photo of the fall foliage up here in the High Country and share it with your friends and family, check out the Fall Photo Hike at Beech Mountain! Join photographer Nicole Hymowitz at the Buckeye Recreation Center. She will be teaching a short lesson on light, composition & basic photography then will take you on the trails for a guided photowalk. Make sure to bring your DSLR or your camera phone. Also included is access to a free photo gallery app to upload all your shots and share with friends and family. Hike is open to all and no experience required. $7 per person. Call today to RSVP! Ski Chairlift Rides:
When: October 14th and 15th
Where: Sugar Mountain Resort Main Lodge, 1009 Sugar Mountain Drive, Village of Sugar Mountain NC 28604
During Sugar Mountain’s Oktoberfest, enjoy the area’s fall foliage while riding the Summit Express Chairlift to the top of Sugar Mountain! You can sit and relax while witnessing the astounding views up in the air. Chairlift operates from 10:00am until 5:00pm on October 14 & 15, 2017. Lift ticket prices are: $14 for a one-time ride, $35 for an all-day ticket (children 4 and under ride FREE with paying adult). Admission for Oktoberfest is free.
