Its fall here in the High Country, which means leaf lookers from all around come to see the magnificent autumn colors our beautiful mountains have to offer. There are many spots around the area to check out, but if you want to turn your leaf viewing experience into a fun-filled activity, here are a few more memorable ways to view the leaves this season:
Grandfather Mountain Guided Fall Walks:
When: October 1-13, 10:30am-3:30pm
Where: 2050 Blowing Rock Highway, Linville, NC 28646
Grandfather Mountain’s guided walk series, “Fall Color Ramble,” gives leaf-looking visitors a chance to experience the breathtaking fall colors of the Blue Ridge Mountains though various locations around Grandfather’s grounds. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the variety of tree and plant species with members of Grandfather’s naturalist staff.
“Fall Color Ramble” will be offered daily from October 1-12 and is included in admission. Call ahead or stop by the Nature Museum to see where the day’s walk will start. The Ramble culminates on Oct. 13 with a day full of fall-colorful programs and activities. Program begins at 1 p.m. and is included with regular admission. Beech Mountain Fall Hayrides:
When: October 6th and October 20, 1pm
Where: Beech Mountain, NC
Roll through the mountain roads, taking in all the sights and colors of the mountains in the fall on these hayrides! The October 6th ride the Fall Leaf Looker ride, and is free. It departs from 1330 Pine Ridge Road in Beech Mountain at noon. The October 20 ride ends at Banner Elk Winery and includes a tasting. Admission is $12 for adults or $5 for anyone 12 and under. Once the ride is over, make sure to tour the winery! The winery hayride will meet across from from town hall at 403 S Beech Mountain Pkwy at 1pm. Emerald Outback Guided Hike:
When: October 14th, 8:45am
Where: 400 Beech Mountain Pkwy, Beech Mountain, NC
Join the Buckeye Recreation staff on a Guided Hike of the Emerald Outback Trail System, a favorite of residents & visitors for its breathtaking long range views & scenic paths! Meet at the EMO Base Lot at 8:45 am, with prompt departure at 9:00 am.
Ski Chairlift Rides:
When: October 13th and 14th
Where: Sugar Mountain Resort Main Lodge, 1009 Sugar Mountain Drive, Village of Sugar Mountain NC 28604
During Sugar Mountain’s Oktoberfest, enjoy the area’s fall foliage while riding the Summit Express Chairlift to the top of Sugar Mountain! You can sit and relax while witnessing the astounding views up in the air. Chairlift operates from 10:00am until 5:00pm on October 14 & 15, 2017. Lift ticket prices are: $14 for a one-time ride, $35 for an all-day ticket (children 4 and under ride FREE with paying adult). Admission for Oktoberfest is free.
