The Holiday Season is a time for family, friends, and good cheer! Many of us are also thinking of others, particularly those who may be struggling. If you’re wondering how you can offer a helping hand, here are some local organizations helping us all give back this Holiday Season.
The Women’s Fund of the Blue Ridge is tackling hunger in the High Country this holiday season with their Pack the Pantry initiative. Every dollar donated will be matched up to $5,000. The proceeds will be split equally between the Hunger & Health Coalition, Feeding Avery Families, and Ashe Food Pantry. Click here to donate before December 4th.
The Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce is a drop off point for A Simple Gesture. Come by the Chamber and pick up a green bag. When you’re out doing your shopping, pick up non-perishable items for people facing food scarcity in the High Country. Then drop off your bag back at the Chamber of Commerce. On pick up day, a driver will come and take all of your goods to the Hunger & Health Coalition.

Blowing Rock Cares Food Pantry is battling food scarcity in the Blowing Rock Community. They are located at the back of Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church. There is a food drop-off cart there at all times, or if you would like to leave your donation with a volunteer, come on Wednesday from 9:00am-12:00pm. Please make sure foods are non-perishable, or if you would rather donate funds instead of food, you can do that here. For every $1 donated they can purchase $7 worth of food.

The Hospitality House is bringing back their Holiday Honor Cards for the 2023 season. Buy a Holiday card online or from a local retailer and 100% of the proceeds go to the Hospitality House. The Hospitality House works to end homelessness in the High Country by offering housing, hunger, and crisis assistance to local families.
Casting Bread Food Pantry is another great way to give back this Holiday Season. Their mission is to increase food security in the High Country. Located at Faithbridge United Methodist Church, 194 Aho Rd. Blowing Rock, NC 28605, they offer a free self choice market. They also offer a cafe using foods from the market, and work to create healthy recipes for their guests. They distribute over 180,000 lbs. of food each year. To donate, click here!
