Fall Color Update: October 30, 2025
Today’s update is our final one for the 2025 season. While we still have pockets of color here and there, the majority has moved down the mountain to lower elevations.

Today’s update is our final one for the 2025 season. While we still have pockets of color here and there, the majority has moved down the mountain to lower elevations.

The leaves are migrating down from higher elevations and showing off more at lower ones. The fallen leaves have collected and give that satisfying crunch on hikes as well as blow around in the breeze.

It has been another vibrant week here in the NC High Country and we are excited to share our colors with you! This weekend will be the busiest weekend of the season, with fall foliage, the Woolly Worm Festival, Valle Country Fair, and Homecoming at Appalachian State University bringing thousands to visit.

If you haven’t already come up to see the color here in the High Country, now is the time to plan. Fall Color Guy has called peak for the Blue Ridge Parkway between Grandfather Mountain and Blowing Rock at the middle of this week bookended by last weekend and this upcoming one.

Actually, this weekend the color is going to accelerate quickly, really showing off at the highest elevations including, Grandfather Mountain, Elk Knob, and Newland. For more on that, follow along with Fall Color Guy.

Today is warmer than we’ve seen the last week or so and the light is beautiful to get out and see the color! The colder evenings have helped colors progress and the recent rains have fed the trees so the leaves are still hanging on in most places.

It certainly feels like fall today in Blowing Rock, and we could not be more excited. The weather has been cooler overall, with heavy rainstorms in the afternoons

The color around Blowing Rock is progressing nicely. While we are seeing color development, there is still plenty of green on the trees as it’s early in the season.

Happy Fall Y’all! Today, on the first day of Fall, we went to the beloved Bass Lake to take photos. The leaves seem to be turning faster this year than usual, but Bass Lake always turns at the beginning of the season due to the age of the trees and their proximity to water.

A 20-mile section of the Blue Ridge Parkway opened yesterday, October 23, from Milepost 285 to Milepost 305. This includes many people’s favorite spots such as Beacon Heights, Rough Ridge, and Price Lake. Color on this section of Parkway is varied depending on location.
