Learn what crafts and activities settlers in the North Carolina Backcountry would have been doing during the summer months. See craft demonstrations such as spinning and weaving. Try period food and drinks prepared in the same fashion as the settlers of the 1700s.
Explore jewelry making using Precious Metal Clay. PMC is clay made of metal particles, which allows you to sculpt and create pieces that become solid, fine silver when fired. Each student will be able to create a pair of small earrings and a charm or a bead.
Celebrate Independence Day at Hickory Ridge! See a North Carolina Continental Line encampment where you can join the 1st North Carolina Regiment under the command of Colonel James Moore. See period weapons demonstrations as well as demonstrations of different skills and crafts from the colonial period. On Sunday afternoon witness a reading of the Declaration of Independence. See how they would fight back without the British knowing. Also see how the British Army treated their subjects after their defeats at Kings Mountain and Cowpens as well as their costly victory at Guilford Courthouse. Times of tours & events TBD.
In this one-day workshop, we will explore the art of slow stitch and embroidery in the creation and making of a work of fabric collage. Elements of embroidery, hand quilting, and slow-stitch methods will be demonstrated and will culminate in each participant having the tools, materials, and process knowledge to craft a work of fabric collage and to continue this craft as a personal creative pursuit.
