Immersive History: Independence Day Celebration at Hickory Ridge

Hickory Ridge History Museum 591 Horn in the West Dr, Boone, NC

Celebrate Independence Day at Hickory Ridge! See a North Carolina Continental Line encampment where you can join the 1st North Carolina Regiment under the command of Colonel James Moore. See period weapons demonstrations as well as demonstrations of different skills and crafts from the colonial period. On Sunday afternoon witness a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Storytelling Saturday at Mystery Hill

Join us at the Dougherty House at Mystery Hill the first Saturday of each month from 2-4 pm for Storytelling Saturday! Enjoy Jack Tales and traditional Appalachian stories passed down from generations told by storytellers. Admission is included in the price of your Mystery Hill ticket, so you can also enjoy the Gravitational Anomaly, museums and Tomahawk Hill! Fun for all ages.

Witness as Hickory Ridge is transformed into a settlement under the occupation of the British Army in 1781. See how citizens reacted to having an army literally on their door steps. See how they would fight back without the British knowing. Also see how the British Army treated their subjects after their defeats at Kings Mountain and Cowpens as well as their costly victory at Guilford Courthouse. Times of tours & events TBD.

Thread Therapy: Exploring Fabric Collage, Hand Quilting & Slow Stitch- Workshop

In this one-day workshop, we will explore the art of slow stitch and embroidery in the creation and making of a work of fabric collage. Elements of embroidery, hand quilting, and slow-stitch methods will be demonstrated and will culminate in each participant having the tools, materials, and process knowledge to craft a work of fabric collage and to continue this craft as a personal creative pursuit.

Take your paints outside with North Carolina landscape painter Scott Boyle for a 2-day plein air workshop in beautiful Blowing Rock, NC. The workshop will consist of a brief lecture, group discussions, outdoor painting demonstrations, and student painting opportunities. Scott will paint 2 demonstration paintings and students will have a chance to complete 2-4 paintings each.
