Take your paints outside with North Carolina landscape painter Scott Boyle for a 2-day plein air workshop in beautiful Blowing Rock, NC. The workshop will consist of a brief lecture, group discussions, outdoor painting demonstrations, and student painting opportunities. Porsche Concours

First Baptist Church 350 Sunset Dr, Blowing Rock, NC

On Saturday, September 11, the Appalachian Region of the Porsche Club of America will hold a Porsche Concours (car show) at the First Baptist Church.  The show is open to the public, and there will be about 40 Porsches from the 50’s to current models on display from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm.  Come by and see the cars and talk cars with a bunch of Porsche enthusiasts!  The Appalachian Region of the Porsche Club of America will be visiting Blowing Rock from September 9 to September 12, bringing about 100 members.

Scholars & Scones: Ginseng

Dr. Jim Hamilton is Watauga County's Director of Cooperative Extension. For the last ten years, he's been huntin', plantin', transplanting, consuming, and teaching workshops about ginseng. Dr. Hamilton will discuss the significance of ginseng to western North Carolina, its role in local and global markets, and other cultural nuances of ‘seng.

Beautiful Needle Felted Landscapes

Attendees will learn to needle felt a beautiful landscape using dyed wool roving. Using only barbed needles, students learn to turn a pile of fluff into a memorable scene of our amazing mountains. No experience needed and all are welcome. Kits will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring photos of their favorite mountain scene to use as inspiration. A complete instruction booklet and resource list is also included.

Answering the Call of Your Land: Seeing The Practical, Delightful, and Sacred in the Landscape This program will cover the functional issues in garden design and show how to transform your garden into something special. We will discuss techniques and draw from examples in our community that show beauty and utility in harmony and alignment. At the root of Garden Design, there has to be a deep understanding of function, the needs of the land, and a healthy interrelated ecosystem between the land and the buildings.
