FREDRICK “CRAIG” FRANZ, Oil and Soft Pastels
Essentially self taught as a painter, Frederick “Craig” Franz has been creating art for the last 17 years. Studying art in college led to a brief career as a jeweler/craftsman and then onto his forty year career as a dental technician fabricating and sculpting porcelain crowns and bridgework. Turning to painting in his early fifties, Craig first worked in soft pastels and later in oil. Continuing to use both mediums, his landscapes primarily depict the beauty of his western North Carolina mountain home. Working both in the studio and in ‘plein air,’ he paints in an impressionistic style with an emphasis on color and composition. Come meet Craig at Edgewood Cottage in Blowing Rock from September 4 through September 10.
