The Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show has been awarded Heritage Competition designation by the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF). The Blowing Rock show, now in its 91st year, joins an exclusive list of only 17 of the approximately 2500 USEF-sanctioned horse shows held annually in the U.S. to be so designated.
To qualify for Heritage Competition designation, the Blowing Rock show had to demonstrate a unique competitive environment for both exhibitors and spectators, along with qualifications in several other categories, including historical significance and quality of competition. The designation protects the show from future rule changes that might significantly alter the nature of the event.
In awarding the designation, John Long, USEF CEO said, “This show has become a part of the fabric of the American showing scene. With its endurance, dedication to philanthropic efforts and impact on the community, it is a perfect example of what we look for when designating Heritage Competitions.”
“Being recognized by the Equestrian Federation as a Heritage Competition is the highest honor ever we’ve ever received, said Horse Show Foundation Chair Burr Collier. “We are both proud and humbled that the show has been formally recognized for its historic value to the sport and for what it means to the town of Blowing Rock. We thank the Federation for this extraordinary recognition and pledge our best efforts to always be worthy of it.”
The 91st Annual Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show will take place at the L. M. Tate Show Grounds at the Blowing Rock Equestrian Preserve. The show’s Saddlebred Division is June 5 through 8 and the Hunter Jumper Division is July 22 through 27 and July 29 through August 3. Shows run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily; admission is $5 per day. The USEF serves as the National Governing Body for Equestrian Sport. The Federation also licenses equestrian competitions of all levels across the United States each year.
