The first hints of color are showing on the slopes of Grandfather Mountain. This view can be enjoyed from the Beacon Heights Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 305.2 (Blowing Rock is at mp 294). Today was another beautifully warm day. In fact, Grandfather Mountain’s color report for this week states: “This past weekend’s wave of warm weather seems to have stalled fall color change… While peak color didn’t occur over the weekend, experts are anticipating the first week in October as a likely — and colorful — possibility.”
A look from the other side of the 221 exit gives a closer view of some of the color on the ridge above, while the trees immediately around the overlook are still mostly green. Click on any image to view larger.
