Blowing Rock is one of a dozen locations selected by Travel & Leisure magazine for inclusion in its list of America’s Prettiest Winter Towns. The list, published in the March, 2012 on-line edition of the magazine, includes venues such as Jackson, Wyoming, Red River, New Mexico, Ouray, Colorado, Grafton, Vermont and Charlottesville, Virginia.
The article suggests that readers “play it cool in these scenic small towns that just know how to embrace winter.”
“It’s fantastic to get recognition from a national media outlet like Travel & Leisure. Those of us who live and work here know how cool Blowing Rock is, and when we get an accolade like this, it makes us feel pretty good. We’re in select company with the others on that list, but we know the recognition is real. It validates the hard work we do as a destination,” said Tracy Brown, Executive Director of the Blowing Rock TDA.
Of Blowing Rock, Travel & Leisure says, “The Blue Ridge Parkway passes by this century-old mountain town, whose Main Street has shops for antiques, crafts, even dulcimers. Streams trickling through quiet forests banked with snow inspire exploring and reflection. “
The article mentions nearby ski areas and Winterfest, including the Polar Plunge.
