Blowing Rock’s Main Street was honored with a 2013 Great Places in North Carolina award, sponsored by the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA-NC). Expert panelists selected “Great Main Streets” in the mountains, piedmont and coast: Blowing Rock’s Main Street was the mountains winner.
Kevin Rothrock, Planning and Zoning Director for the town of Blowing Rock and Tracy Brown, the Executive Director of the Blowing Rock Tourism Development Authority, accepted the award during an awards luncheon last week in Winston Salem.
“This award is really about planning and working with stakeholders to get projects done that will benefit the most people” said Rothrock. “It shows that we have a great group of people working in and around town that are willing to get involved and see that we stick to our core values regarding development and design standards.” he said.
In announcing the winners, APA-NC said, “All the main streets recognized this year are walkable, dynamic, and vibrant. These places bring residents and visitors together for special events and serve as central gathering places in the everyday life of their communities.”
