It was a perfect morning for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway! There was some clean-up required on the Parkway after Hurricane Irma, and many sections were closed for a time. Only one section of the Blue Ridge Parkway near Craggy Gardens (MP 375 to 355) remains closed as of today. Blowing Rock is located at MP 294.

Color is developing nicely at higher elevations here, and it should be especially striking in another week or so. The slopes around Green Mountain Overlook and Green Mountain Creek (MP 300.6) are showing just a bit of vibrant red and yellow.

Most of the surrounding slopes are showing a subtle shift from the verdant green of summer, but they still have a way to go before peak color (click images to view larger):
