This week is off to a beautiful start! The morning was a bit cloudy, but the sun came out over a bit of fall foliage by Tweetsie Railroad and High Gravity Adventures.

Though we aren’t seeing peak color here yet, the view is showing some good foliage change so far. We have some warmer-than-average temperatures this week, so color changes will probably keep a gradual pace. Dr. Howard Neufeld, our local Fall Color Guy, noted yesterday: “In August I said best color in the High Country would be between Oct 10-20. Now I think it will be closer to the 20th. A cold front is supposed to move in next weekend, which should get things going. Meanwhile, this week will be sunny, with no rain, so a good time to visit.”
If you visit between now and the end of next week, stop by a local visitor center like the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce or High Country Host to get advice on where to find the best color while you’re here. While the 20th is the best prediction for the most widespread color, there are already some great locations for viewing foliage. The views will all continue to change as the season progresses!
