Today was a gorgeous day for a drive along Highway 221 from Blowing Rock to Grandfather Mountain! This road is known by a couple other names: Yonahlossee Road and the Little Parkway. It parallels the Blue Ridge Parkway for much of the distance to Grandfather, through largely undeveloped areas of the Pisgah National Forest. It’s a very winding, narrow road, with lots of canopy cover and tree-lined curves. Take it slow and enjoy the views!

There are also a number of gravel spots along the roadway where you can pull over to take a photo or enjoy a scene for a few minutes. At a couple of spots you can get a view of a small waterfall. Another couple offer views of the Linn Cove Viaduct curving along slopes overhead.
