Who says romance has to be candlelit dinners and spa treatments? Not us! Relationship experts say that trying new and exhilarating things together can increase your feelings of romantic love for one another. Doesn’t that sound great! It doesn’t have to be hard either. Blowing Rock is full of fun and adventurous activities to do with your loved one.
Ski/Snowboarding
Soar down the hill on skis or a snowboard. This is a great new skill that can be learned together. Appalachian Ski Mountain has the French Swiss Ski College which has taught over one million people how to ski or snowboard. Once you’ve learned how to do it, you can go try out new slopes together.
Snowtubing
Head over to Hawksnest and go snow tubing. If skiing or snowboarding isn’t really your cup of tea you can glide down the slopes on a much less intimidating tube. It’s adventurous and novel enough for our purposes but requires less skill and sweat. Hawksnest is also home to a number of ziplines.
Ziplining
Reach new heights together. Fly through the air on a zipline and get that adrenaline up. You’re sure to rekindle that romantic feeling after a day of ziplining. There are two ziplines in Blowing Rock, High Gravity Adventures and Sky Valley Zip Tours. Either is an excellent place to go experience some adventure together.
Hiking
Plan a hiking trip to tackle a new trail. Tailor it to your skill level by making it as simple or as strenuous as you’d like. See a waterfall or take in sweeping mountain vistas. Remember to wear layers and pack plenty of water and snacks depending on how long you’re going to be out. Please also make sure to follow the principles of Leave No Trace.
Mystery Hill
If you want to try something novel together, Mystery Hill definitely needs to be on your list. You can ride a bull, and see who can stay on the longest. Don’t worry, it’s not a real bull. Throw a tomahawk at Tomahawk Hill, or do some gem mining on Prospector Hill.
Art class at BRAHM
Try your hand at painting with BRAHM’s Cork & Canvas classes. These classes allow you to follow along with an artist and paint your own masterpiece. Stretching your creative muscles can be another good way to ignite that spark and try something fun and new together.

Fall Color Update: October 24, 2023
Last week we saw our most impressive colors at our highest elevations. Over the weekend we experienced wind that scattered some of our more vibrant leaves at the ridges of our mountains. However, there are still great colors to be found below 4,500 ft.
